Stitched with my usual DMC Perle #8 on a linen/cotton mix, this is Vandyke Stitch.  I love it – simple, effective, with easy variations, I see it as having many possibilities – a seam or border treatment, long creepy multi-legged creatures, outlines for flowers if you stitch it with a very short inner leg, the same for a sun……

Butterflies are Wave Chain Stitch with Bullion and French knots.  Dark Green Border is Siennese Stitch.

Triple Chain Stitch – worked in variegated Perle #8 on linen – inner and outer side stitches of the circle are deliberately different sizes.  This stitch could easily be further embellished with beads or other stitches for an impressive design.

This randomly stitched version is worked in a thicker Perle #5, and could make an interesting filling.

Buttonhole Wheel Cup

I have been looking for stitches that could be used to replicate lichen, and this one might just work with a little fine tuning.  There are French Knots here too.

TAST2 Catch up

Last night was spent in front of the TV doing weeks 15-18 of TAST2 – I’m not particularly happy about these examples, but at least they are now done.  I still have to do this week’s one to do, but ran out of space on this piece of fabric.  My original plan was to make a long band sampler in the same way as Sharon B’s most wonderful one, but I’m not sure this is working for me.  There are some great examples of all these stitches and the various way others are doing it on the Flickr group for TAST2 here.
