Yesterday I headed to Melbourne for a variety of reasons, but one included a visit to the Melbourne Museum to see the soon to be opened exhibition of Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs. I’m among the first few hundred lucky folk in Melbourne to see this great show at a preview, which was a great treat. It is well displayed, in several galleries where each one takes you further into the tomb, describing the ancient funereal practices, showing photos of how Howard Carter found the tomb, and displaying some of the beautiful artifacts which were found with King Tut, until in the final gallery where you can see an Xray of the mummy and how it was contained inside a stone sarcophagus and several other highly decorated coffins. There was too much to try and describe, and I would not do it justice – just go and see it for yourself!
My son has a birthday soon, so we took the opportunity of all being in the same place, to have a celebratory dinner at a local pub, before returning to my daughter’s place for cake and presents. A wonderful evening spent with five very special people – thank you kids.
