Because both stopped at once, this morning I took my very special 30+ year old Omega Seamaster watch and my spare one to the local jeweller to have new batteries installed. I needed to leave them for 10 minutes or so, and having done what shopping was needed, decided on a cup of coffee to kill the time. I had both dogs with me, as one had been to the vet, so needed somewhere with outside tables…Having found a place, I was standing with my head through the cafe door trying to attract the attention of one of the waitresses, so I could make my request without the bother of having to tie up the dogs and go inside. A lady behind me offered to “get me something” and I asked if she could place my order for me, then I went and sat down. When this lady came out, she stopped to say my coffee would be brought out…….I thanked her, and then she asked if Maggie was a Koolie – remember she has been shorn, so does not really look like a Collie. People frequently ask about Maggie when I have her out because of her unusual colouring, so we began to chat and I explained about Maggie’s history and background, while Maggie made friends with her. The lady who is a farmer’s wife, told me about her five Border collies, one Labrador and two cats….and we agreed that life without a dog would not be good. A pleasant interlude all round, I thanked her again and she went on her way.
I again went to the cafe door to pay for my coffee, only to be told by the waitress that the lady had already paid for it. Now this was a complete stranger, who did not mention she had paid for the coffee, and had no reason to do so. I had only asked her to order for me….I have no idea who she is, and have no way of thanking her properly. What a pleasant surprise, and a generous thing to do!
