I think I mentioned that each member of the experimental group, Nifty Needles, part of Castlemaine Embroiderer’s Guild, is working on pages for a textile book, and will be using techniques trialled at each month’s meeting. My book is to be called Inside the Gate and I am using my property for inspiration, so it gives me a huge scope.
In February we played with distressing Kunin felt with heat, transfer dyes and foiling – this is my first page. It represents some of the huge moss covered rocks that have been used in landscaping around the garden. It is made using felt that has been melted with a heat gun, a tiny bit of added foil to give the sparkle of granite, and straight stitching with silk threads and French knots. The background is hand dyed muslin. I’m not yet sure how this and future pages will be finished, but probably they will be mounted on other fabric pages which will then be bound together.
