I picked the first raspberries for the season today, and shall enjoy them for desert this evening. The crop looks as if it will be as good as last year thanks to the bees who helped fertilze the flowers, and the fact they were netted early to prevent the birds devouring them before they are properly ripe. Even so, it will be necessary to keep a close watch on the bushes as already one greedy but stupid young Carrawong has needed to be rescued when it became tangled in the netting. Oddly the birds are not the only preditors of which I must beware – as I was picking these, my Collie Maggie was helping herself to any within her reach!
This is another Christmas gift, a little zipped purse made with various fibres embellished onto felt, lined and quilted by machine to make it more sturdy. It is quite small, only 4 x 5 1/2 inches wide.
