2012 – Post #1

Some good things have been happening for me recently through my photography – which is really good as life was a bit stressful towards the end of last year, so it is reassuring to be moving on from all that.

I sent a small gift to a new internet friend before Christmas, and in return this happened on a beach in Florida – what a great idea, I was very chuffed!  Thank you Patsye, it made my day!

This was the beach – absolutely beautiful – I would love to walk there. My favourite beach time would be in winter, and that is Florida in January!

Some of you might know I like owls, and have a small collection of owl figures…..not crass cutesy ones, but carefully chosen, well designed and with character – I might share some images when I run out of other things to post!  They live in a glass cabinet and on a bookshelf where I can enjoy them as I pass by.  My daughter also finds good looking owls on greeting or post cards wherever she might be, and sends them for no particular reason – it is always a thrill to find one in my mailbox.

Today this one arrived today.

This is a Boobook owl, painted in watercolour, pen and ink between 1790-1800, and now part of the National Gallery collections.  His feathers look so real!

This is another favourite one from a couple of years ago.  It is a Merry-go-Round card, designed to be reused by replacing the message insert and sending another time.  I like it too much to lose it in that way.

I have actually spent a day sewing, the first time in ages………more of that later when I decide what it is I’m making!

  1. Wouldnt those owls make a great quilt or hanging!
Could you use your eco dyed fabrics to applique them too?
My grandson has taken to the owls in all his fave stories, so I made alot as xmas decs and at one time he had 9 snowy xmas dec owls in his bag and refused fto go anywhere without them………..so funny lol
An Older Woman is right…………owls capture our hearts and yet at times could be quite scary……..but we still love them…….( not unlike some men Ive known…!)

  2. And this beach would love to have you walking on it. Things do get quiet here this time of year. Anyone coming to Florida usually goes farther south, though yesterday it was close to 80 F. I had the air-conditioning on in the car.

What is it with owls that make them so attractive? Is it like babies and their eyes? Or that beautiful hooting sound that is so soothing? I know they are predators, so that can’t be it. They’re just so darn cute, like penguins and koalas and pandas. Patsye

  3. Hiya Sue, congratulations on the photo publishing and win. Well done. I’ve bought the magazine you are in!! It was lovely to see you there.. I”m doing some ground work before the big step into an SLR.. it’s all very confusing at this stage..
    hugs and happy 2012..

  4. What a beautiful beach. I love your owls. They are very trendy over here at the moment but unfortunately usually the crass cutsie ones in fabric. Millions to be seen in every store!
